Here are some answers and guidelines to some commonly-asked questions. Please talk to your instructor for further advice and information.
How much does it cost to train with Saracen?
It costs £15.00 per calendar month for a Junior (under 18) and £25.00 for an adult. Clubs with multiple sessions (and in the case of the Watton Venue, Nights) often offer discounts for multiple training. Additionally families of 3 or more receive discounts.
You will need to buy insurance on an annual basis. This needs to be renewed on the anniversary of joining up (does not run January to January) For new members the first calendar month's training is free.
How often should I train?
You can train as often as you like but ideally you should train regularly for maximum benefit. Most of our students train for an average of two hours a week.
Can I train anywhere else other than at my local club?
You are welcome to train at our other clubs, please go to our training pages for further information on where else you can train.
We also put on additional pre-grading, black belt, sparring and bagwork sessions on a regular basis, please go to our events page for more info.
What equipment will I need?
You will need a dobok (uniform) and when you start sparring, you will need basic sparring kit. You can order a dobok through your instructor and he/she may be able to lend you some basic sparring kit to get you started. Compulsory kit for sparring includes a mouth guard and hand, foot & leg protectors.
How do I tie my belt?
This can take a while to perfect! Ask your instructor to help you .
What is the belt order in Tae Kwon Do?
The belt order is as follows: white, red (10th Kup), orange (9th Kup), yellow (8th Kup), yellow belt green tabs (7th Kup), green (6th Kup), green belt blue tabs (5th Kup), blue (4th Kup), blue belt brown tabs (3rd Kup), brown (2nd Kup), brown belt black tabs (1st Kup), black (1st Dan)
Which colour belt do I start on?
This will depend on your age. If you are old enough, you may be able to start on yellow belt (8th Kup). Talk to your instructor for more details.
When will I be ready to grade to the next belt?
Your instructor will tell you if you are ready to grade to the next belt.

As specified in your licence book, you have to train for a minimum of 12 sessions over a duration of 12 weeks between 10th and 6th Kup. 5th and 4th Kup: minimum of 24 sessions over a duration of 12 weeks. 3rd Kup: minimum of 48 sessions over a duration of 6 months. 2nd Kup: minimum of 52 sessions over a duration of 6 months. 1st Kup: minimum of 60 sessions over a duration of 6 months.
